In This map I gathered (and constantly update) all points of Lombardy and North Italy deserving of a visit. Most of the points marked here are easily reached, if you are looking for breathtaking points (synonymous with places impervious) then continue reading.
Below I will show you some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve been able to photograph in Lombardy. The list is still missing as many as Livigno, the walk (for hikers) to the Twin Lakes, the whole Valtellina (link for the panoramic trekking from Malghera to Schiazzera).
The upper town of Bergamo, the villas in Tremezzina and more generally those of Lake Como, The Palù lake is easily reached by cable car, and the Valseriana in the province of Bergamo.
In this article in particular we will talk about the breathtaking landscapes of Lombardy, starting from the most impervious up to the huts with simpler paths over Lake Como.
The Furnace Glacier is a glacier that can be reached in a couple of hours from the Forni hut (accessible by car and with possibility of overnight stay).
The way to reach it is quite inaccessible even in summer as it has Tibetan bridges suspended and at the end of the path large boulders to go through but not too tiring.
For a snowshoeing on the snow followed by a guide there is the Zainuddin refuge in Valmalenco that about an hour away from the refuge on foot allows you to admire extraordinary landscapes.
In the first two photos we see the snowy landscape under the Pizzo step (Campo Moro) and in the last the dam easily reachable if from the hut continue on foot going down to the road that leads to the basin of Campo Moro and to follow the basin of Alpe Gera. The third photo represents the lake of the Chiavenna hut reachable in a couple of hours (and something more) for hikers in the Valchiavenna.
I remind you to have boots or crampons to make these excursions and that the weather in the mountains is completely different from what you find in the plain. It can be August with 30 degrees in the shade and have already snow in the mountains. Always dress “onion” with various layers of clothes that you can remove and wear depending on the change of time and always wear a windbreaker in summer.
Last but not least the landscapes that you can admire near Lake Como and reach in a couple of hours. The first is the Menaggio hut (above Menaggio) with a beautiful view of Lake Como, the second is located above Lecco on the mount two hands and is a bivouac (free and uninhabited) in which to be able to stop even for one night, while the third (refuge Ezzonian) enjoys D I have a beautiful view over to the Retallow.
