If you are planning a trip to Chamonix but prefer a more secluded place to sleep, my advice is to head to Les Houches! You can arrive there in few minutes from Chamonix thanks to the bus that connects the two cities and stops right at the Hotel Rocky Pop, and the village is a good starting point for a weekend of relaxation or sport.

You can get to Chamonix in a very low cost way from Milan thanks to the Flixbus connection with prices starting from 9 euros!

This is the view from the room on a winter evening:

Unfortunately Google does not have the updated information 🙁 and does not know that there is a bus that passes right in front of the hotel (every 30m) and that leads to Chamonix in 12-15 minutes in a very comfortable way (leave where there are buses like Flixbus but you can get off at the stop you want)

The hotel in which I stayed, the Rocky Pop Hotel, is a themed games hotel with pac-man signs for the various corridors leading to the rooms.

In the breakfast room there are also two free games to entertain the whole family while those who prefer a herbal tea can prepare it on their own thanks to the common areas that offer teas, good music before dinner and a bar with good drinks for the after dinner. Even breakfast in the morning is very pleasant especially in the secluded room with large windows from which you can watch the snow fall while sipping your coffee! The seats in this area are very Japanese-style (I found the Dorayaki for breakfast! Finally!) But if you prefer the American atmosphere there are tables in that style too.

This hotel is an excellent solution to all the luxury hotels that surround the area, without however anything to envy!

“While the R-1 level is dedicated to the Sliding area and the Skishop, on the ground floor everyone enjoys a truly unique place like no other where there is a sweetness of life and happiness to be together. Shop, photo booth, live music, cinema and games at will: everything is designed to have fun.

The ski shop offers, for rent and for sale, the equipment, clothing and accessories of the biggest brands. “

Once you arrive in Chamonix, the view that you will present in front of you will be really idyllic, but watch out for the prices 🙂

Eat low cost

The bbc recommends La Petite Kitchen, an intimate café that serves abundant seasonal home cooking made with locally sourced ingredients. Try the caramelized tarte onion with Tatin, € 10.50, followed by the vanilla panna cotta, € 6.50. For dinner, the Eden Hotel, in the nearby village of Les Praz, has a contemporary menu, impeccable service and a magical forest setting with a set menu of € 23 for three courses.

Did you know that there is also a McDonald? and that is also beautiful? or at least one of the most beautiful I’ve seen, and the prices are more or less those of Italy (sometimes there are deals with menus at 4 euros) so you will not starve 🙂

So seen Chamonix looks like a postcard!

And for the after dinner? Enjoy a hot drink at one of Chamonix’s open-air bars or an apres-ski at the La Folie Douce 😉
